George Eustice has welcomed the decision by Cornwall Council to build the new Cornwall Archive and Records Centre on the old brewery site in Redruth. The MP for Camborne and Redruth has played a key role in persuading the owner of the site and the Council to work through the details to make the project a viable proposition and to ensure that the town's bid was successful.
George Eustice said, "Redruth was always the natural place to locate the Cornwall Archive and Records Office because it is at the heart of the world wide Cornish Diaspora with around a quarter of all those living overseas with Cornish ancestry coming from our town. The new archive can also build on the great work already being done in Redruth by organisations like the Cornish Migration Project and the Cornish Studies Library.
"This project is also is a fantastic opportunity to kick start the regeneration of the whole town. The brewery site has been derelict for almost twenty years and getting construction on this site has always been the key to getting Redruth moving again. I am delighted that Cornwall Council has made the right decision on this after months of careful deliberation."
