Camborne and Redruth MP George Eustice has joined the government as a Parliamentary Under Secretary of State in the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs.
Following a meeting with the Prime Minister, George confirmed that he had accepted the ministerial position saying, “I spent ten years working in thefarming industry and policies relating to water and the fishing industry are particularly important to Cornwall. I am really looking forward to working with colleagues within DEFRA to champion the interests of rural communities.”
George Eustice spent ten years working in the family farming business in Cornwall. He studied Commercial Horticulture at Writtle Agricultural College in Essex between 1990 and 1993 and worked for a year at Bransford Nurseries in Worcester. The family farm grew 200 acres of winter vegetables and fifty acres of strawberries and operated a pedigree herd of South Devon Cattle. Today the family business, Trevaskis Farm, is run by George’s brother, Giles, and his parents. It is Cornwall’s leading farm attraction and farm shop. The family still breed South Devon cattle on the farm and also have one of the country’s oldest herd’s of British Lop Pigs, a rare breed native to Cornwall.
