The new apartments are situated in the former Holman Brothers factory, at the ornate Public Rooms site in the heart of Camborne, and will offer supported housing for the old and disabled.
The total cost of the development was £2.9million. Almost £1million of funding was secured from the Homes and Communities Agency and Cornwall Council to help redevelop the building, which had stood derelict and decaying for nearly 15 years. The rest of the cost was met by Coastline.
Camborne Public Rooms has always been a very significant building for Camborne, which had been awarded UNESCO World Heritage Status, but had fallen into a dangerous state of repair. The Town Council, and others, were extremely keen that this important building be preserved for future generations.
George recently wrote an article on the new development, which can be found here.
Robert Nettleton, Chief Executive of Coastline Housing, said: “We are delighted that we have been able to regenerate such an important and historic building at the gateway to Camborne, and provide more people with affordable places to live in their local community.”
