Local MP, George Eustice, has called on businesses and local councillors in Hayle and St Ives to create a water link between the two towns.
“Hovercraft”
Mr Eustice has said that such a link would benefit both towns, and that the problem of low water levels could perhaps be overcome by using a hovercraft rather than a more traditional ferry. Citing the example of the link between Portsmouth and the Isle of Wight, the Hayle MP suggests that the venture could have real commercial value.
George Eustice said, “Between them, Hayle and St Ives have a lot to offer and a sea link between the two towns would be a fantastic resource, benefitting tourists and local businesses alike.
The potential problem of very low tides could perhaps be overcome by using a hovercraft such as between Portsmouth and the Isle of Wight, and I think would generate a lot of interest.
The impressive new developments taking shape on North Quay in Hayle, and soon to begin on South Quay, will really revitalise the town and I think that this could be the next step forward.”
