George Eustice joined several other Cornish MPs today in welcoming a new apprentice scheme set up by a group of local newspapers. In an article in this morning's 'South West Business', George said "We need to create new jobs in the private sector and an apprenticeship is a fantastic way for young people to learn a real skill to develop their career while earning money." Spurred on by the announcement that a young cornishman, Tom Clegg, was recently named the UK's 'Shipyard Apprentice of the Year, 2010', the West Briton and its sister newspapers aim to create "100 apprenticeships in 100 days". They hope that this initiative will help other young people in Cornwall get the head-start in life that Tom Clegg has received.
