George was invited to appear on the BBC's Newsnight programme last night where he was asked about the political responses to the recent crises in North Africa. George questioned whether the Labour party and in particular their leader, Ed Milliband, have taken the right stance.
"Opposition leaders are always under pressure to go for the jugular from their own supporters. People want to see them attacking the Government. However all the evidence suggests that this is not a good long-term strategy. The most important thing for someone to do in opposition is for them to develop a coherent agenda of their own for the future and I think that is what's not really happening within Labour at the moment. They are taking a lot of risks by broadening these attacks onto foreign affairs."
George also used the opportunity to praise David Cameron's approach to his advisors, "In any other walk of life people would be subject to reviews and their performance would be assessed. That should happen in Governement as well. When you're taking incredibly important and difficult decisions that have big consequences for the country, you absolutely need to make sure you have got a very good set of advisors around you."
