The British press is at an incredibly important juncture with implications resonating internationally. On the eve of the Leveson Public inquiry and amid other investigations and consultations on press issues, there is a sense that a new and comprehensive settlement is pending. The Guardian hosted an event last week, bringing together journalists from around the world, as well as politicians, to discuss how the press can go about restoring trust.
On the panel were:
George Eustice MP, former press secretary to David Cameron
Carl Bernstein, journalist and author
Krishnan Guru-Murthy, presenter for Channel 4 News
Sylvie Kauffmann, editorial director, Le Monde
Alan Rusbridger, editor-in-chief, Guardian News & Media
