George Eustice attended the Renewable UK annual Wave and Tidal conference in the Queen Elizabeth II centre in Westminster yesterday where he was invited to speak alongside Maria McCaffery, the Chief Executive of Renewable UK in a Press Conference on Wave and Tidal Energy.
George took the opportunity to set out his reasoning for why he thought the sector was worthy of public sector funding, and suggested three core criteria that projects should be asked to meet when bidding for this funding. These were, firstly the amount of potential the project has to offer, secondly, the risks involved in the development of the project, and thirdly, where the project was in the development process. George argued that the Wave Energy sector, with its enormous potential, both in terms of job creation and green energy provision, would be in a prime position for funding under these criteria.
George also joined many other parliamentary colleagues in signing a letter addressed to the Chancellor and the Climate Change minister calling on them to ensure Britain maintains its position as a world leader in the marine renewables sector.
